A Preview of ICHG 2024

As the CEO of Pregnancy Sickness Support, I am excited to attend the International Colloquium on Hyperemesis Gravidarum (ICHG) 2024, where some of the most groundbreaking research in the field will be presented. This event is crucial for advancing our understanding and treatment of Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG), a condition that affects countless women worldwide.

A packed program

The program is packed with insightful sessions led by top experts. Dr. Marlena Fejzo will explore new genes associated with HG through a multi-ethnic meta-analysis, offering hope for a better understanding of the condition’s genetic underpinnings. Professor Stephen O’Rahilly’s presentation on GDF15’s role in nausea and vomiting during pregnancy is another highlight, as it could pave the way for new treatment possibilities.

Additionally, the focus on nutrition is particularly vital. With sessions led by Dr. Amy Valent and Dr. Ione Trovik, the conference will delve into the nutritional risks faced by HG patients and discuss how dietary interventions can improve patient outcomes. These discussions are essential for developing comprehensive care strategies that address the physical and nutritional needs of those suffering from HG.

Patient experience and advocacy

Another key topic is the patient experience, which will be addressed in various sessions, including the expansion of ambulatory services to support HG patients, led by Jane Peters, and an innovative approach to care presented by Andrew Housholder, MD. Understanding and improving the patient journey is at the heart of what we do, and these sessions promise to provide valuable insights and I look forward to presenting a short talk on this on Day 1.

Policy and advocacy are also on the agenda, with Kimber MacGibbon, RN, MPH, moderating discussions on legislated improvements in HG care. The importance of advocacy in driving research and better patient care cannot be overstated, and I am eager to contribute to these vital conversations.

Will you join me?

This conference is more than just a gathering of experts; it’s a platform for change, bringing together researchers, clinicians, and advocates to forge a brighter future for HG sufferers. I am looking forward to sharing our organisation’s vision and learning from my peers, as we work together to advance the care and treatment of Hyperemesis Gravidarum.

ICHG 2024 will take place on November 6-7, in Ventura, California (near LA).
